Since
this species is a generalist predator, it will feed on many insects
besides aphids. Its diet includes larvae of rare butterfly species.
Multicolored Asian lady beetles also feed on fruit and are known
to
damage apples in orchards
by eating through the skins, thereby ruining much of the crop.
These ladybugs will also feed on grapes, and often get mixed with
grapes during wine production.
Adults are known to inflict a painful bite to humans. The inflammation
from such a bite can last for days. The large numbers that invade
houses in fall can be a nuisance, and many homeowners have attempted
to control these insects. The fluid emitted from the leg joints
when the beetles are alarmed can stain walls, paint, and fabrics.
Large numbers of these beetles indoors can cause allergic reactions,
such as difficult breathing, in some people.
