Introduction through Laboratories

Scientific research institutions and educational institutions, private and public research laboratories, schools, zoos, and aquariums use non-native species for testing, teaching, and research. Accidental release of specimens can occur when strict guidelines for animal management are not followed or when such guidelines do not exist. Specimens may also be intentionally released or may escape. These species and their food can also introduce exotic diseases, microorganisms, and seeds to new areas.
