Field bindweed can be spread by both seed and root fragments. The
root fragments are often spread by farm implements that carry infested
soil between areas.
The seeds of field bindweed may be eaten by birds and remain viable,
allowing the plant to be dispersed to new areas. Field bindweed
also is spread with feed and commercial seed and by water.
Seeds buried in the soil may be viable for as long as 50 years.
These seeds will germinate when areas are tilled.
Once established, field bindweed is a perennial plant which produces
root and shoot buds, generating many new plants.
