As its name implies, the Asian Tiger Mosquito is native to the continent
of Asia and is fairly common throughout the Orient. The mosquito
ranges from New Guinea and the islands in the Indian Ocean, westward
to Madagascar, northward through India and Pakistan, and through
China to Korea and northern Japan.
The
Asian tiger mosquito was first discovered in the continental United
States in Houston, Harris County, Texas, in August 1985, breeding
in discarded used tires. It was most likely introduced into North
America through the importation of used tires from Japan or Taiwan.
